Damian ?Jr. Gong? Marley, well-known for his unique, controversial and thought-provoking rhymes, has sold at least 500,000 copies of his third album, Welcome To Jamrock (Tuff Gong/Universal). It has been certified GOLD by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
When advised of the GOLD status of his album, Damian delightedly exclaimed, ?Dat nice dread?.
The smash title single was followed up with the equally controversial Road to Zion featuring rap ing?nue Nas. Road to Zion has earned its place in rotation on MTV Networks in the US and on major cable stations across the Caribbean region.
Since the release of the album on September 13, 2005, Welcome To Jamrock has been making strides in the international music industry for Reggae and Dancehall music. Damian has been the opening act for the Rock powerhouse, U2 and was also a featured performer on the MTV$2 tour. Damian was grateful for the opportunity as he was able to perform for an audience that previously may not have been aware of his music.
Junior Gong has also won numerous awards for the album. He walked away with the award Boomshot Award from Vibe Magazine and the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act. Welcome to Jamrock is currently nominated for Best Reggae Album and Best Alternative Performance for the Grammy Awards.
Damian is currently in Ghana for Africa Unite. On his return, he goes on tour in the United States.
